The Hotel has been involved with sustainable tourism in Costa Rica for a long time now and we are also part of the Tourism Board CST (Certificate of Sustainable Tourism) Program. (The hotel has obtained 4 leafs out of the 5 possible). Behind this idea is the will of being able to propose a dream place to our guests and at the same time keep the ground and all the resort as ecologically neutral as we can.
This kind of program goes from not using chemical pesticide, reforestation, having our own green garden, but also helping the communities around the hotel in a social way. We want our guest to be part of this program and there are many way they can help by saving water, electricity and recycling garbage. We want a better and greener future for all of us.
At Villa Caletas we walk the walk and talk the talk. We just installed 134 solar panel on the roof of our main reception. With a power of 41 kilowatt and an annual production of 62 Megawatt ,enough to feed five bedrooms, as well as all the administrative area and all dry and cold storage area. The hotel also offers hot water which is obtained from photo-voltaic systems for some rooms, in other we take the heat produced by the air conditioning machines through a system of recirculation. We strive to save the environment one step at a time.
What is CST: The Certification for Sustainable Tourism Program – CST – is a product of the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT). The CST was designed to differentiate businesses of the tourism sector, based on the degree to which they comply with a sustainable model of natural, cultural and social resource management. CST is regulated by the Costa Rican National Accreditation Commission and consists of a scale of 5 “levels” of sustainable tourism achievement.
